Moksha Yoga Teacher Training Day #1

Me and Ted, the man that started it all.

Mr and Ted, the man that started it all.

So today was the day, my big first day of yoga school. I had jitters and nerves fluttered though my body like I was heading off to High School for the first time all over again. I was excited, I was nervous, I wanted to scream and laugh all at the same time. But as the morning went on the lightness and joy of all us 61 trainees replaced the awkwardness and any uncomfortable feelings we had.

The morning sharing circle began with everyone introducing themselves, mentioned what their home studio is, what brought us here, and what is our intention for the training. When my turn came up this is what I said: I’m Jill, my home studio is Moksha Yoga Downtown in Toronto. What brought me here, not only the love and support of Jackie (who I was sitting next to) and all my teachers at Downtown, but it was a certain special moment at work. It was the day Ted came to visit our office – I work at Bullfrog Power – and when I finally had the opportunity to met Ted the words “I want to be a yoga teacher” blurted out of my mouth. So I had to become a yoga teacher. I just said so in front of Ted Grand.

Ted’s response to me was “the next training will be in LA, but make sure to get your application in soon because it will fill up quickly” And so I did. (I know you guys have already heard this story like a million times). My intention for the training is change. Back at the beginning of the New Year, while on a yoga retreat with Ezmy and Jackie, I set the intention that 2013 was going to be my year of change. And so here I am, and I can’t think of a bigger change happening in my life than being here and what till take place in the next 30 days to come.

From there we played a name game (ugh! sorry I’m not a games person), but it wasn’t terrible. Afterward lunch was served, Bryde (the Moksha Teacher Training organizer guru) debriefed us on the month ahead, scheduling, the importance of being on time and prepped us on the dreaded presentations! As if learning to teach wasn’t hard enough.

Ted and Jess (the co-founders of Moksha) gave a talk on the history and philosophy of Moksha then our day ended with a beautiful 90 minute asana lead by Ted. Oh boy, if the next 30 days are anything like today I will not be able to walk of talk, but let me tell you I will be glowing and grinning from cheek to cheek.

Now it’s bedtime. 6:30am morning class is going to come way too quickly!

Thanks Jewel! So far it’s been a roller coaster of a ride. A whole lot of ups and downs and days of exhaustion, but it will be worth it in the end.
