Marathon Training Day #135: Everybody hurts sometimes

Photo1 (3)

I went for my easy 6k tonight, even though I really, really didn’t want to. I was battling stomach pains all day and on my run all my little aches and pains flared up: my left knee, my left hip, both my achilles. It was weird and worrisome and frustrating. But the marathon is only 5 sleeps away, so I’m not going to worry about it too much.

At this point, I don’t have a choice.

Go figure its the easy runs that are the worst. I practically skipped out the door this morning – my first run to work of the season. I’ve really missed my early (and short – 5k) run in since the fall. Not that I mind running in cold, I actually far prefer it – I just can’t figure out how to fit my winter jacket into my itty bitty run backpack.

So back to my point.. I skipped out the door with a smile on my face and took off. Enjoyed the first minute, and then knew something was off. I couldn’t get my breathing sorted out the entire time, I felt (and was) slow, and worst off – I didn’t enjoy it at all.

I think I just bolted out the door too quickly and burned off whatever energy I had. Who knows. But go figure.

GOOD LUCK on your marathon! Looks like you picked a tricky one – but with all that training you’ll nail it 🙂

Running is funny, eh? I find with long runs I can just ignore the aches or whatever but with short ones it’s like argh!

Thanks for the well wishes! I did pick a tricky first one — oops — but it’s fun to be back in Halifax and I’m looking forward to seeing the city in a different way.

Now that your half marathon is over, what are your fitness plans?!
